FLOW: Paul Harris

Imagine...

You hand the spectator a water bottle full of water. After this, you ask them to open the cap, and poor a little bit out. Once done, you instruct them to put their hand over the opening of the water bottle. After a dramatic pause, instruct them to very slowly, turn the water bottle upside down. Tell them that water has a strange property. The flow of the water can literally be stopped with a little bit of magic. They will, of course think you are crazy, so have them slowly remove their hand from the opening of the water bottle. Just like magic, the flow of water stopped, and nothing will come out. Have them raise the upside down water bottle, to see the non-flowing water. After they recover from shock, have them lower the water bottle, place a toothpick through the mouth, and watch as the toothpick floats to the top. Once all is said and done, have them squeeze the bottle to release the flow of water. This is flow…

Second Trick: Ashes on Arm

Effect: The magician has a spectator pick a card and memorize it. With the deck in hand the magician loses the spectators card with ease. As the spectator screams the name of the card in their mind the magician takes ash from an ash tray; and rubs the ash, all over his/her arm. The figure of the spectator's card emerges from the ash on the magician's arm.

Set-Up: Take a single card (lets say the King of Clubs) out of a deck of cards, and lay it on a table. With rubber cement draw the representing letter/number, and sign on your arm. Let the rubber cement dry for a couple of minutes, and you are ready to perform.

Method:
  1. Force the card you drew on your arm (King of Clubs)
    • Card Force (Riffle):
      • Put the desired card in the middle of the deck.
      • Keep a pink break over the desired card.
      • Riffle down the side that faces the spectator.
      • Have them yell stop!
      • Cut the deck at your break and let them take the card
  1. Have them memorize the card, and place it back in the deck.
  2. Mix the cards up losing their card.
  3. Come up with some patter about ash, and their card to say.
  4. Rub the ash over your already placed rubber cement.
  5. AND ENJOY!

First Trick: Two Card Monte

Effect: Magician places both black queens facedown on the spectator’s hand. When the spectator is asked which queens are which the spectator answers. After the answer the magician has the spectator flip the queens to show two red aces.

Set Up: Set the deck up as fallows:
Black queen TOP

Red Ace

Black queen

Rest of Deck

Red Ace BOTTOM

Materials Needed: Deck of Cards

Method:

1. Open up with your patter.

2. Single lift top card showing the first queen. Flip the card back over.

3. Hand the top card (first queen) face down to the spectator to hold.

4. Double lift top two cards showing the second queen. Flip the cards back over.

5. Hand the top card (first ace) face down to the spectator exchanging the card already in their hand (first queen) with the card in your hand (first ace).

6. While misdirecting with patter switch the card in your hand (first queen) with the bottom card (second ace).

7. Bring attention back to the card in your hand (second ace), which they think is the original first black card.

8. Put the card in you hand on top of the card that they have been holding (first ace) for the majority of the trick.

9. Reveal the cards any way you please.

ENJOY!
